Apple added these features in late 2022, so most iPhone users probably have it by now, but it’s always a good idea to check. iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma support this feature, as do iOS/iPadOS 16 and macOS Monterey.

1. Find a text error. You’ll need to send a text on the messages app you want to take back.
2. Long press the text bubble you want to unsend. Hold until a menu comes up with your options.
3. Select Undo Send. This option lasts up to two minutes after you send the message. This removes the message and lets you know it’s been successfully removed.
   

4. You also have the option to edit a message you send to fix typos or rephrase awkward language. Long-press the text bubble and select Edit. You have a more generous timeframe for this option, as long as 15 minutes to make edits. The option returns the message to your text box and allows you to make changes. How much about this does the recipient know when you unsend iMessages?

Quite a bit, it turns out. This feature has several limitations. First, the message is sent immediately and appears on the other phone. In the two-minute window, the other person has a good chance of seeing the message before you unsend it, especially if they are following your conversation or the new message shows up as a notification on the lock screen.

Second, if you unsend a text message, the other person receives a notification that a message was previously there but was removed by the other user, which could lead to some questions. No. Although Apple continues to improve iMessage, you can only edit or unsend messages to other Apple users. Standard SMS doesn’t support this unsend feature, so the message still appears no matter what you do. This is true no matter what kind of SMS app you use on Android.

Android users can use iMessage via third-party apps like Beeper and AirMessage. While these support iMessage texts, we can’t guarantee they’ll support all features, and that’s especially true of the unsend option.
